In other news, I have a mild fever. I haven't had a fever (that I've known about) in a very long time. I disapprove :(

So I spent my morning being cranky about something that I cannot do a darn thing to fix until Tuesday, but stayed cranky for several hours regardless. Then I spent 3 hours cleaning and putting shelf paper in my cabinets (I HATE shelf paper: truly, madly, deeply hate it!), which I'm not going to credit with improving my mood because that just doesn't make sense, but at the end of it all I was mostly better.

And then I came home and caught a few rounds of [livejournal.com profile] bridge2sickbay. This week's theme was AUs. My personal theme this week seems to have also been CRACK. I dunno, folks. I just don't know.

Prompt: Kirk, Chapel, Rand - Nunnery
The Plight of the Rake; Kirk, Chapel, Rand, PG, cracky 'historical' AU )

***

This one is a melding of two prompts. It just sorta happened.

Prompt: Kirk, Chekov - Police Detectives
Prompt: Kirk, Gaila - Cybersex addicts
Another Day on the Job; (Sam)Kirk, Chekov, Kirk/Gaila, PG-13, crack) )

***

I was bad and definitely did not stick with the spirit of the prompt, but I couldn't resist the idea of Kirk and McCoy as evil game designers planning to wipe out your entire family on Oregan Trail.

Prompt: Kirk, McCoy - Traveling the Oregon Trail or similar
Creative Minds are Evil; Kirk, McCoy, PG, probably cracky? )

...and that's all there is to say about it.
bluegeek: (Star Trek - Lovely Uhura)
Well, though I got canceled for part of my shift I've just found out I've got to drag myself in for the rest of it. I was able to get some sleep today, so that's a plus.

[livejournal.com profile] bridge2sickbay ficlets below! This week's theme was Spring!

Prompt: McCoy, Joanna - Playing in the sprinklers
Family Matters; Kirk/McCoy, Joanna, G )

***
Prompt: Uhura, Gaila – Butterflies
Jeweltones; Uhura/Gaila, G )

***
Prompt: Pike, McCoy - Spring Fever
Spring Fever; Pike/McCoy, R, (Yeah, it's a wee bit porny) )

***

And now I am going to get ready for work and pack my lunch up. Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go...

PS: Anyone want to write me Kirk/McCoy comment fic/comment porn to cheer me up when I get home in the morning?
bluegeek: (Default)
So my plans for tomorrow and Saturday fell through. I'm sad not to get the opportunity to visit a friend, but happy to not have to drive 3 hours so that I can help move furniture and clean stuff. It also means that I cannot beg/borrow/steal her tasty chicken recipes that I've been coveting for over a year now. Sadness.

Instead I will probably be a bum and do absolutely nothing. I'm not entirely against the "nothing" plan. ;)

Still have a class tomorrow though. Semi-early, woe.

Wall?

Have you ever been just going along, happily typing away with good momentum and a seemingly clear idea of where you want to go with a story, and then just... hit a wall? Like, out of nowhere, smack into it? Repeatedly and painfully?

Argh!
bluegeek: (Default)
Urgh. What a long day. Just a steady level of busy all day that leaves me with sore feet and a tired mind (and body!).

Wasn't a bad day, though. Just busy.

Also? It was so darn windy this morning that my umbrella was nearly ripped out of my hand. It was turned inside out and half the joints are now broken. *sadface* So now I need to go buy a new umbrella. Preferably one with staying power since I work at the top of a hill and don't get to park in the lots closest to the building.

Now I have a choice. I am warming up my bed (yay electric blanket!) and taking a shower. After that I can either try to go to sleep like a good little doobie (so I can get up again tomorrow and be busy) or I can stay up rather later than is wise for feeling good tomorrow and read fic from my backlog. Hmmm, which option do you think I'll choose?

Fic woes

Argh! Why won't they stop talking? I want to wrap this sucker up but Bones will just not shut up!

I need to be barred from the kink meme. For serious.
bluegeek: (Star Trek - Boldy Go)
So, I am sick. I've been sick since mid-Monday. I've missed 2 days of work, was feeling rather craptastic during my parents wedding ceremony (Why yes, it was adorable, thanks for asking :D ), and am not getting better yet. This last bit is unusual for me since usually any ill feelings this time of year is generally allergy-related and goes way once I start medicating myself properly. Well, I'm medicated and still feeling crappy. I'm kind of concerned that I'm headed in the direction of a sinus infection (or am perhaps already there, but in denial - don't take my denial away from me!)

Anyways, the main reason for this post, despite the wordcount of the above whining, is to rec an excellent fic that I adore and want to hug and squee over endlessly. It is Corresponding Shapes (Kirk/McCoy, R) by [livejournal.com profile] savoytruffle. In fact, I'm going to make tea (or take a nap, or both) and take some more meds and then reread it. Because once through cheered me up, twice through can only improve upon the effects, right?
bluegeek: (I don't obsess)
...and it is driving me insane.

Today was a day where I specifically planned nothing so that I could perhaps get some writing done.

And I... haven't. Each time I open a WiP I read it over, stare at the screen for a while, sigh, and close the file again. I even started trolling for prompts over at the kink meme to try and came up empty - is it just me or are they getting kinkier? The three "long" stories I've written have been inspired by the meme, as are most of the WiPs, so it isn't as though I haven't found anything before, but I struck out today. *sigh*

On a positive note I did read several fic on my "to read" catch up list, take a nap, do 2 loads of laundry, and make chocolate cookies, hummus, and peppers & mushrooms in balsamic vinagrette today. So at least I haven't been entirely unproductive.

So... not saying that anything would ever get written, but if you wanted to read a ficlet in the Star Trek reboot universe, what would you like to see?

Work sucks

This has been a rather crappy weekend at work wherein I felt like I just chased my tail all day and never quite caught up. It also bugs me that I can't get anyone to listen to me when I feel there is an obvious problem and then my relief can get it done in an hour.

Anyways.

So I was offered the chance to leave early today and I jumped at it figuring I could a) get the hell out and b) get home in time to enjoy [livejournal.com profile] bridge2sickbay. I am quite happy to be at home tucked under a big comfortable blanket and curled up with my computer, but so far I've got nothing as far as writing goes. *sigh* I think I'm still too keyed up to have fun with writing drabbles and such, but I was so looking forward to doing something creative today.

Ah well, there are several more rounds to go. Maybe I'll chill out in time...
bluegeek: (Writing)
It is currently 2am and I am still awake. I have to be out and about to take my car to the mechanic in under 6 hours. I am not happy about this. Since I'm not yet sleepy, however, I am writing this and eating leftover acorn squash and chocolate cheesecake. My weird cravings, let me show you them.

~~~
So I participated in [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking for the first time this year. I had fun, but didn't produce nearly as many fills as I had hoped I would, sadly. My stocking's contents can be found here. Go and admire :) There is an especially adorable Zoe/Wash backstory drabble by [livejournal.com profile] isellersfic that I love as well as a sweet and wonderful Teyla/Ronon/Rodney Vegas!verse fic by [livejournal.com profile] purple_cube. You will also find icons by [livejournal.com profile] vandonovan and [livejournal.com profile] yhlee that are excellent and definitely added to my collection. To round it out, you will find a link to a Doctor Who Ten/Reinette, Ten/Rose fanvid (Woo! Fanvid!) and holiday wishes.
It's been an excruciatingly painful process, but I've actually been getting a bit of writing done. It's been entirely in [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking rather than my WiPs of doom (or would it be W(s)iP?) but it's still writing. I've been greatly helped in the process by a friend who recommended the following sites:
Write Or Die
13 Tips For Actually Getting Some Writing Done
So, these have helped me to sit down and just write something. I'm trying to sit and write and just do it without psyching myself out about the general suckiness of whatever it is I'm working on. I guess the current motto is: At least write something and if it sucks, you can delete it. But at least you did it. We'll see how this works as an MO for me.
Crappy day
I have had a rather crappy day at work, which caps off a rather crappy few days in general.
Anyone got any cheer-up links, fics, vids, jokes, etc to share? I would really appreciate them.
bluegeek: (Star Trek - Boldy Go)
I tried to multitask tonight during bridge2sickbay, since I can't just devote a 4 hour chunk of every Sunday to writing alone (sadly :( ). It didn't turn out so well. I did manage to produce 2 ficlets, do 2 loads of laundry, and steam some veggies for lunch tomorrow, but I burned dinner tonight by getting distracted and had trouble focusing on writing and really only got inspiration for those 2 prompts.
Next weekend is a work weekend, so I don't think I'll be able to participate then, but hopefully I can get back into the swing of things the weekend after.
The two ficlets produced tonight were both Chekov/Sulu, which is unusual for me, but who am I to complain ;) Without further ado...
Prompt: Sulu/Chekov - I've got no illusions about you, and guess what? I never did. (Ani DiFranco)
Truth; Sulu/Chekov, PG-13) )
**
Prompt: Sulu/Chekov - If I knew the way, I would take you home. (Grateful Dead)
Hail Mary, In Space; Sulu/Chekov, PG-13 )
bluegeek: (Star Trek - Lovely Uhura)
I answered four prompts for last Sunday's B2S drabblefest. I was definitely heavy on the Kirk/McCoy pairing which I adore so very much.
I am really enjoying reading and writing in this community. Even when I can't get a word down on screen for any of my WiPs I have still managed to have a blast with the drabbles. Less stress, perhaps? Two of WiPs have the potential to be monsters, so maybe I'm just overwhelmed?
Note: All drabbles/ficlets are left (pretty much) as is. So far I've resisted messing with them after posting them to [livejournal.com profile] bridge2sickbay so that I don't make myself insane. Aka, unbetaed and rough(ish).
Prompt: Author's Choice - No, it's not regret, just remembrance, is all / Of how close we had come / The war almost won / But I sent up our flag and moved on (Vienna Teng)
Surrender; Kirk/McCoy, PG )
**
Prompt: Kirk/Author's Choice - I'm only happy when it rains, I'm only happy when its complicated (Garbage)
Complicated; Kirk/McCoy, PG )
**
Prompt: Kirk/McCoy OR Sulu/Chekov - But you, my brother in arms, I'd rather I'd lose my life than let you come to harm. (Decemberists)
Eyes on the Prize; Ensemble, hint of Kirk/McCoy, PG )
**
Prompt: McCoy/Author's Choice - Georgia, Georgia / No peace, no peace I find / Just this old, sweet song / Keeps Georgia on my mind (Ray Charles)
Peace I've Found; McCoy/Uhura, PG )
**
Hmmm, first time I've ever written McCoy/Uhura. I find I rather like them. At the very least Uhura fit best for the idea I had, it just felt right somehow.
Still, can't beat Kirk/McCoy for top place in my heart and affections.
Fic stress
The story I am currently working on is giving me fits. Fits of frustration, most especially. Argh!
bluegeek: (Default)
My very first post using my shiny new laptop. So wonderful. It actually works, and tends to actually do what I tell it to, a novel concept, I assure you. What is not so wonderful is the process of transferring everything from my old laptop to this new one. Oy, headache.
In honor of my birthday, and to christen the new computer, I had wanted to write a new fic, however the muse has not been kind to me of late. I can do the next best thing, however, now that the reveal for [livejournal.com profile] remus_reads has occurred :)
First, however, I would like to pimp out the fic that I received in the exchange: Raindrops on Noses by [livejournal.com profile] nohwrah. I've linked you to the posting at her journal, rather than the community's journal so that should you want to comment on it, she will receive it more easily. This story is a lovely fic written from my prompts of: teasing conversations and hopeful endings. It is Remus/Sirius, G, MWPP-era, and quite enjoyable.
My contribution to the exchange is below, but before I get to that, a bit of background... It was written for [livejournal.com profile] nohwrah (Funny how that turned out :) ), with the prompts: smoking!sirius and unrequited love being requited. The minimum word count for this exchange was 200 words, however once I got started I couldn't stop. It just got completely out of hand :-D I think the prompts given were perfect - enough to give me a starting point without being restrictive of my imagination. I'm sure there are still rough spots in there, so feel free to point out any errors, or question anything you'd like - I love constructive criticism. I also had a second beta, [livejournal.com profile] rissabby, in addition to the always-wonderful [livejournal.com profile] amor_remanet, whose comments and suggestions were added to the version of the fic I'm posting now, so... thanks to wonderful, lovely, understanding, and patient betas!
Title: Sheer Madness of the Marauder Sort
Rating: PG
Pairing(s): Remus/Sirius
Warning(s): Hmmm, heights and smoking?
A/N: This fic was written for [livejournal.com profile] nohwrah for the [livejournal.com profile] remus_reads fic exchange to celebrate Remus Lupin's birthday. It was-betaed by the ever-talented [livejournal.com profile] amor_remanet and [livejournal.com profile] rissabby, whose help and humor are invaluable.
It was the smoke that gave Sirius away... )
*sigh*
I have got to stop replying to messages without first checking who I'm signed in as. I keep screwing up the whole separation of RL and fandom journals thing.
