Why is writing this damn Statement of Purpose for grad school so hard? Oh my STARS!

Everything I write sounds trite and boring and unoriginal, and ya know what? IT IS!

I feel like this is going to crash and burn me and I don't know how to fix it :(

Is this master's or PhD level? I can't speak for others, but the thing I look for in an SoP for our PhD program is that the student have an idea of what they want to research, that the topic/focus fit with the program, and that they seem to sort of know what the hell they're talking about.

And also that they can write in English.

I don't know if that's much help, but it's just one data point suggesting that earthshattering originality is not always necessary.

Master's level. I know what my focus/specialty will be and the program is rigid. There is no deviating from the set plan of study, so it's been easy to clearly define my plan and goals. I appreciate your input because you definitely helped me to settle down to a "get to the point" strategy instead of some of the more wishy-washy "advice" from some online college admissions sites.

I've finally hammered out a decent intro and body, so I'm left with struggling through the conclusion. I now find myself stumped once again. Argh. I'll muddle through though, can't leave it sitting around forever.

Thank you!
