Fannish fun

This week's theme was squicks. Prompts were both squicks that the prompter has as well as things the prompter likes that other people often find squicky.

Being unable to leave well enough alone I simply had to turn two of the prompts on their ears. I love Uhura and tend not to find the "Uhura is a total bitch for no apparent reason" fics as well as the "McCoy is a wuss who must always be saved and never do the saving" trope to not be my cup of tea, so I toyed with those "squicks" a bit. I know, I know, perhaps not what the prompter intended (or maybe it was?) but since this comm is a free-for-all comm rather than a gift or wish fulfillment comm, I figure it's okay to risk not interpreting the prompts as intended. My cup of tea is not your cup of tea and vice versa.

I don't know why I write cutesy Sarek/Amanda. They weren't cutesy in the movie, so I have no idea where it's coming from. I like it though ;)

This is the second bridge2sickbay in which I've participated and the 2nd & 3rd overall ficlets I've written for the community. Sadly I've either been working or otherwise engaged during most of the past several months' Sundays, making it tough to get involved. Fortunately, though I arrived after prompt post #4 yesterday, I did manage to create two ficlets, posted below.


The prompt for the first was Sarek/Amanda - Pets

The second prompt was Kirk/McCoy - Denial
This isn't exactly a happy fic, but hopefully one that is somewhat true to character (20 min isn't a ton of time to beta oneself for OOCness, at least for me) in a bad situation. I'll be up front on this - it didn't spring up completely from the prompt, but is actually a scene I'd planned (very, very roughly in the form of a few scattered and incomplete sentences in my outline) for a WiP I'm semi-working on that stems from a very old st_xi_kink prompt. I felt the prompt lent itself to the scene well, so I ran with it using my half-formed ideas of what I wanted the scene to look like, and this is what I came up with in 20 min or so. Should I ever complete the darn fic (which does, indeed, give me fits) this scene will require expansion and massive clean-up, but for the moment it has at least served to vault me back into writing something.
