This is nice, thought Remus. He drew in a deep breath and rested his head back down on Sirius' shoulder.
Sirius drove with one hand while the other rested across the back of the seat and curled around Remus shoulders. He drove too fast, but still Remus felt safe. Sirius' hair, loose and wild in the wind, twisted and flew into Remus face, tickling him. He didn't mind.
A deep sigh, a slight grin, and Remus closed his eyes and just let the bliss of the moment wash over him.
Later on, after darkness fell, with the car parked on the side of the road, the two boys gazed up at the stars in silence. Remus sat up against the seatback with his head lolling to the side to take in the view.
He wasn't looking at the stars.
Sirius lay across the seat, his head in Remus' lap, his long legs stretched out and propped on the side of the car. It didn't look like a comfortable position to Remus, the width of the seat did not seem adequate for those big shoulders and he couldn't imagine ever having his feet hanging out of a car like that. Sirius, however, wore an expression of supreme contentment on his face.
Sirius, meeting his gaze for a brief moment, smiled and raised one arm above his head to rest against Remus' thigh, palm up. Remus interlaced his own fingers with Sirius' and rest his head back.
They contemplated the stars together.
